Skin Resurfacing Q & A

Solaris Laser & Skin Care

What is Skin Resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing treatments help to improve the tone and texture of your skin by sloughing away the uppermost layer of cells and stimulating subdermal collagen production to plump up the tissue underneath your skin for a more youthful appearance. The clinicians at Solaris Laser & Skin Care offer a variety of treatments, including chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser treatments to address a wide range of skin concerns including fine lines, scarring, and discoloration.

What is a Chemical Peel?

During a chemical peel, a licensed clinician applies a chemical solution to your skin for a deep exfoliation treatment. Chemical peels come in three different strengths depending on the level of damage that you want to address. The deep exfoliation takes effect over a few days following treatment with the uppermost layers of skin peeling away to reveal the fresh smooth skin underneath.

While recovery time isn’t necessary, you may want to take a few days off if you are concerned about the appearance of your skin while it peels.

At Solaris Laser & Skin Care, all chemical peels are done with PCA SKIN® products. To learn more, you can visit their site here.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion treatments are like a gentle sandblaster for your face. During the treatment, your clinician carefully directs a stream of a gentle exfoliant at your skin. The pressure and the abrasive nature of the exfoliant safely sloughs away the uppermost layer of your skin to reveal softer, smooth skin underneath. Microdermabrasion doesn’t hurt and is a great way to quickly and effectively exfoliate your skin.

Do I Need to Do Anything Special to Take Care of My Skin After Treatment?

After all of these treatments, you should be careful to avoid the sun. You should wear a high-factor, broad-spectrum sunscreen, even if it’s cloudy. You may also want to follow a gentle cleansing regime following treatment and make sure to moisturize thoroughly and drink plenty of water.

If your treatment requires any additional special care, your therapist discusses it with you in detail during your pre-treatment consultation as well as after the treatment to remind you of the correct care.
